PRODUCT CARE SUGGESTIONS

HANDCRAFTED SOAP:
- Allow your soap bars to dry between uses, to promote longevity.
- Avoid sitting soap in pooling water and limit surface contact using a soap dish, such as our wooden ladder style.
- You might also try applying the soap to hands, skin, or a wash cloth as a swipe of product before creating the friction motion that produces bubbles and suds, rather than using the soap bar itself to create suds. This may also increase the lifespan of the bar.
SHOWER BOUQUET:
- Take the bouquet out of its paper wrapping (and recycle it).
- Release the oils in the eucalyptus leaves by laying the bouquet on a flat surface and gently rolling over the stems. Keep the leaves, stems, and binding at the bottom of the bouquet in tact. Hint: A rolling pin or wine bottle are perfect tools.
- Attach the stems and binding of the bouquet (fullest part facing downward) to a shower head using a rubber band or water-proof adhesive hook OR place bouquet in a vase in the bathroom.
- Replace the Shower Bouquet after a few weeks or enjoy the dried bouquet in the home.
BODY BUTTER:
- Our body butter is made from plant seed butters and carrier oils, which are all temperature sensitive. We do find that, especially when shipped during warmer months, the texture occasionally varies between jars and batches primarily for that reason. Body butter can be used in any state.
- A little goes a long way! Apply a small amount of body butter immediately after cleansing and patting the skin dry (showering, bathing, hand washing) for best results. It can also be used on skin that is feeling dry.
- If texture or separation occurs in your jar of body butter, and a creamy, consistent texture is preferred throughout, remove the lid and place the jar in the microwave (30 second intervals). Once the product fully liquifies, carefully and gently stir and place it into the refrigerator to return to it's firm, semi-solid state.
- If the product partially liquifies, we still suggest fully melting it as described above, gently stirring and placing it into the refrigerator until it returns to it's firm, semi-solid state.
- Store in a cool, dry location, out of direct heat and sunlight. External use only.
LINEN+ROOM SPRAY:
- Shake well before spraying.
- Test any fabrics or linens discretely before spraying.
- Avoid spraying on or near any heat sources or open flames.
- For external use on linens, sheets, clothing and as an air freshener only. Not for use on the skin. Avoid contact with the eyes.
CANDLE CARE SUGGESTIONS
PREPARING FOR EVERY BURN:
Prepare your GOLD+WATER CO. candle for safety and efficiency before EVERY. SINGLE. USE.
- An optimal and safe burn is achieved when a wick is kept closer to the top of the wax. Trim the wick to 1/4” above the candle wax and then trim slightly shorter if needed, to 1/8" before every single burn.
- The candle's flame needs to be close to the wax itself to sustain it, so keeping a short, neat wick, trimmed of charred bits and wax that is free of debris is ideal and highly recommended.
- Remove charred bits on the wick using a wick trimmer (or even pinching it off with your fingers, scissors or nail clippers - when the candle is fully cool, of course).
- Allow enough time for your candle to safely burn and reach a full melt pool the first time (allow 2-4 hours for this to occur, although it will likely occur sooner).
- A full melt pool is achieved when the wax has melted all the way across the surface of the candle, from edge to edge of the container.
- Ensure the wick is centered before burning.
ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS:
HOW DO I LIGHT THE WICK THE FIRST TIME?
- Check our tips above and...
- We recommend using a traditional lighter.
- Remove any charred bits from the wick (especially from failed attempts)
- Hold the candle at a slight angle so that a flame can distribute across the full width of the wick.
WHY IS MY FLAME DWINDLING/GOING OUT?
Tunneling : when wax has not reached a full melt pool during the initial or subsequent burns (see tip 1 above) and now the indentation in the center of the candle is causing the wick to suffocate. It is possible to address this with one of the methods below.
- If the wick is able to stay lit and the indentation is not very deep, let the candle burn for 4 hours to achieve a full melt pool. A full melt pool is achieved when the wax has melted all the way across the surface of the candle, from edge to edge of the container. This will help to even out the surface of the wax.
- When the candle is cool, chip out the wax on the sides of the container, until the wax is even and the wick is at least 1/4" above the wax. Trim down ever so slightly more if needed.
Drowning : when the wick may have been cut too short, so the wax is no longer allowing proper airflow to the wick and thus the flame; or if the wax itself has particles or debris.
- Absorb any overflow of melted wax around the wick to allow more room for the wick to breathe. This can be done using a paper towel and this should NOT be done while the candle is lit.
- On a cooled candle, scrape away a very small amount of wax from around the wick until the wick is at least 1/4" above the wax (can always trim down further if needed). Watch for signs of drowning as noted above, and absorb any excess melted wax around the wick.
- Check for signs of a draft or air current near the candle (air vents, opening/closing doors, etc).
HOW SHOULD I PUT MY FLAME OUT?
Use a candle snuffer to safely put out a candle's flame. Any accompanying lids may be added once the candle has cooled to keep wax free of dust and debris.
HOW SHOULD I TRIM THE WICK BEFORE BURNING IT EACH TIME?
Use a wick trimmer. Additionally, you can trim with nail clippers or scissors. Pinching a cold wooden wick to remove the charred pieces between burns may also be successful.
